It’s official now—congratulations are in order for our own Henry Morris for making the cover of the April issue of Meat & Poultry.

Last month we told you that Morris, Smithfield’s senior corporate vice president of operations and engineering, was named by Meat & Poultry as its first-ever Operations Executive of the Year in its April issue. Morris was deservedly cited for his reputation for hard work, excellence, innovation and integrity.

Knowlton Award Reception

Back in January, Larry Pope, our CEO, was honored with the 2012 Knowlton Award from Meatingplace magazine, a leading industry publication. According to the magazine, the award was given for his “outstanding contributions to the meat industry in the areas of leadership, enterprise, and service.”

Last night, our management team, Larry’s family, and representatives from Meatingplace magazine gathered to witness Larry officially receive the award. We are thrilled that our CEO was chosen for this prestigious honor.

Larry Pope has been named Meatingplace’s 2012 Knowlton Award honoree for “his outstanding contributions to the industry in the areas of leadership, enterprise and service.” He describes in an interview to the editor the challenges the company has overcome, the industry leadership position they’ve achieved in sustainability, community involvement, growth opportunities, and transforming the company into a “consumer demand-driven packaged meats maker.”
