Our operating companies use employee engagement surveys to identify, measure, and prioritize issues that affect our workers and drive business results. The surveys, which are typically offered in English and in Spanish, evaluate topics such as communication, recognition, supervisory relationships, and leadership. For example, Murphy-Brown’s western operations have conducted four employee engagement surveys since 2007. The 2011 participation rate was 88 percent, up from 77 percent in 2007. The survey provides valuable answers to questions such as the following:
- Are employees connected to the future vision of the company?
- Do employees trust their immediate supervisor?
- Are employees satisfied with their opportunities for career advancement?
By answering these questions, employees directly impact action plans that contribute to an improved work environment.
Farmland Foods conducted a company-wide employee engagement survey in August 2011. Our other independent operating companies have also conducted engagement surveys in recent years, leading to changes in leadership training programs and improvements to facilities, among other changes.
