A National Alliance at a Local Level
Learners to Leaders is a national alliance that helps disadvantaged individuals achieve educational goals through local programs.
Learners to Leaders focuses on those who have the desire to succeed, but don’t yet have the skills to overcome their challenges—whether academic, social, or economic. These are often first-generation college-bound students, low-income, or minority individuals.
This program is a collaborative effort among Smithfield Foods, our independent operating companies, and local educational and mentoring partners. It strives to create confident leaders by providing them with the skills to succeed and putting them in a position to give back to their communities.

Katelynn was a part of the Learners to Leaders program at Robeson Community College, and is now transferring to Methodist University, where she will be playing softball and majoring in mathematics. We had the chance to catch up with Katelynn and hear about her experience in the program.
"As everyone knows, the name of this program is Learners to Leaders. I began Learners to Leaders five years ago as a learner. This program developed me into the leader that I am today by showing me that I must push myself to achieve my goals. I feel that programs like these make regular kids from working class families believe that it’s okay to have goals and that it’s okay to strive for those goals. I’m one of those kids, and this program gave me the push I needed." -Katelynn Foley
