Smithfield Foods is proud to receive awards and other forms of recognition for our commitment to corporate social responsibility. The following are just some of the ways in which our efforts have been recognized recently by leading companies and organizations:

FTSE4Good Index Member Company
The FTSE4Good Index Series has been designed to objectively measure the performance of companies that meet globally recognized corporate responsibility standards. Transparent management and criteria make FTSE4Good a valuable tool for consultants, asset owners, fund managers, investment banks, stock exchanges, and brokers when assessing or creating responsible investment products. In order to qualify for the FTSE4Good Index, eligible companies must meet criteria requirements in five areas: working toward environmental sustainability; developing positive relationships with stakeholders; upholding and supporting universal human rights; ensuring good supply chain labor standards; and countering bribery.

Smithfield Foods has been named to FORTUNE magazine’s prestigious annual list of America’s Most Admired Companies for eight consecutive years, ranking sixth among all U.S. food production companies in 2010. The Most Admired list is the definitive report card on corporate reputations. FORTUNE’s survey partners at Hay Group started with approximately 1,400 companies: the FORTUNE 1,000 (the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue); non-U.S. companies in FORTUNE’s Global 500 database with revenue of $10 billion or more; and the top foreign companies operating in the U.S.

Ranked on Maplecroft Climate CII Benchmark, part of the Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes
The Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes (CIIs) evaluate company performance in climate-related innovation and carbon management. The Maplecroft CII Benchmark is comprised of 339 of the largest U.S. companies, and Smithfield currently ranks 176th. Maplecroft has identified several selected strengths of Smithfield, including the fact that we have a publicly disclosed environmental policy that includes commitments to compliance, pollution prevention, and continuous improvement. We also publish indicators for GHG emissions in our annual corporate social responsibility report and engage employees on energy and emissions issues through internal communications and training programs.
Included in Newsweek 2010 Green Rankings
The Green Rankings comprehensively assess the environmental performance of the largest publicly traded companies in America and around the world. Published annually since 2009, this project is the first effort by a major media organization to rank companies based on their actual environmental footprint, management of that footprint, and sustainability communications. The rankings provide a reliable, cross-industry framework for comparing the environmental commitment and performance of major companies.
