Smithfield Foods Education Programs Making an Impact
Did you know that the philanthropic wing of our company, the Smithfield-Luter Foundation, gave over $2 million this past year to charitable causes? Much of this giving went to educational programs for children of our employees and children in the communities in which we operate.
Our Learners to Leaders program is a partnership between Smithfield Foods corporate, the local subsidiary company, and local school systems to provide enhanced educational opportunities to children in our communities who may not otherwise have them. Each local program is different programs take the shape of college scholarships, mentorship programs, dual-enrollment programs, etc. Each is tailored to fit the needs of that particular community.
Scholarship opportunities exist for children and grandchildren of employees of our family of companies. Currently, programs exist with Fayetteville State, Iowa State, Norfolk State, VA Tech, Johnson & Wales, Virginia Union, and Wake Forest. We also help to fund the CNU President’s Leadership Program.
