Water to Help Communities Grow

Education is at the heart of community growth and development. However, less than desirable economic conditions have forced many school districts around the country to take on budget cuts, often implying the end for certain extracurriculars and student services. Premium Standard Farms (PSF), a subsidiary of Murphy-Brown LLC, recognizes the importance of those programs in promoting a well-rounded education for local students.

In northern Missouri, PSF is working hard to positively impact the communities in which it operates by providing local schools with an additional source of income. In September, PSF made a donation of over 1300 cases of bottled water to 14 local rural high schools to sell in their concession stands. School groups who work concessions will have an opportunity to raise additional funds, thereby improving overall stability for extracurricular activities.

Over 20 PSF employees volunteered to help load five trucks and trailers for the delivery of the donation, working with students, faculty and staff to unload the water at each school. PSF remains committed to serving the communities in which they operate.

All 53 residents at the Wallace Gardens assisted living facility in North Carolina received Christmas gifts this holiday season thanks to Murphy-Brown employees who helped Santa by shopping for and delivering gifts and fruit to the facility. Shown here are 2 Murphy-Brown employees and 3 staff members from Wallace Gardens with some of the gifts!

The Arnold plant of Farmland Foods (one of our subsidiaries) won one of our internal Environmental Excellence Awards this year. Each of our plants has the opportunity to submit an environmental project that helps the environment while saving the company money. The Arnold plant submitted a stellar project where they created biogas from methane produced in waste from their Waste Water Plant. They used this biogas to run generators to create electricity for the plant, for a cost savings of about $180,000 per year! This plant chose to give the $3,000 award to Ronald McDonald House, which provides "home away from home" houses for parents whose children are hospitalized, allowing these parents to focus on the healing of their child instead of where they will stay or how they will afford to eat and sleep.
